Senate Committee Demands Original Documents of IPP Contracts

Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee has demanded the original documents of Independent Power Producer (IPP) contracts. The Chairman of the Senate Committee has issued directives to the Ministry of Energy to provide records dating back to 1992 for all IPP contracts.
The committee has also requested a comparison of IPP rates with those of other developed countries’ power plants. In its directives, the committee emphasized the need for details on the electricity purchase rates of other countries through IPPs.
Furthermore, details regarding the closure of IPPs due to technical faults in the past 20 years are also to be provided. Information about the stakeholders and owners of IPPs is also expected to be furnished.
The committee instructed that the record of capacity payments made to IPPs from 1992 onwards should be presented. Additionally, records of contracts and rates for wind power plants in the past 6 years, as well as records of amendments in IPP contracts, have been requested.
Moreover, the committee has asked for details of power policies from 1992 to date. It has also requested a report on the electricity generation capacity since the installation of IPPs. Records of IPPs generating more than 50 megawatts through furnace oil and gas are also to be provided.
The Senate committee aims to comprehensively review the IPP contracts to ensure transparency and efficiency in the country’s energy sector.
