Quetta:Recent reports from Balochistan highlight escalating security concerns in the coal mining sector, as outlined by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan’s November 2022 Fact-Finding Report. Workers associated with the coal industry face dual threats, including accidents due to lack of safety measures and targeted violence by religious and nationalist militants. Concerns are also raised about governmental corruption in the guise of security payments from mine owners, while local communities on mountainsides also demand a share. Despite these transactions, miners and mine owners are under threat, and their businesses and jobs are affected.
