Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Launches ‘Saudi Architecture Map’ to Reflect Kingdom’s Cultural Identity

Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, has officially launched the *Saudi Architecture Map*, a project that reflects the Kingdom’s diverse geographical and cultural identity. The initiative includes 19 different architectural styles, designed not only to preserve the beauty of the past but also to harmonize with the future’s modern urban structures. This step is considered a significant milestone in the construction of sustainable and culturally unique cities, in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who also heads the high-level committee for Saudi architectural design guidelines, emphasized that this project aims to strike a balance between the Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage and modern architectural trends. He stated that Saudi architecture is a unique blend, strengthening cultural identity while enhancing the attractiveness of cities. The initiative will boost tourism and benefit sectors like construction and hospitality.
Experts predict that the economic impact of this project will be substantial, with an estimated economic value of over 8 billion riyals. It is also expected to create more than 34,000 job opportunities in urban development and construction planning. Local architects, engineers, and specialists will have the opportunity to work to global standards, while helping to promote modern trends in Saudi Arabia’s construction industry.
The project is divided into three main architectural categories: traditional, transitional, and modern. One of its key aspects is the emphasis on using local construction materials, reducing the financial burden on developers and owners, and ensuring sustainability and environmental balance within the construction sector.
Initially, the project will be implemented in Al-Ahsa, Taif, Makkah, and Abha, with plans to extend it to other cities in the Kingdom. The 19 architectural styles included in the Saudi Architecture Map showcase the Kingdom’s various environmental and cultural colors, including Najdi, Hejazi, coastal, and mountain architectural styles.
To preserve this unique identity, experts, designers, and both public and private entities will work together to establish a strong and sustainable architectural identity for Saudi cities. Coordinated collaboration among government agencies, engineering offices, and real estate developers will be ensured for the successful implementation of this project.
Additionally, specialized studios and training programs for architects and designers will be introduced to align Saudi urban landscapes with modern demands and sustainability principles.
