Saudi Arabia Celebrates World Arabic Language Day 2024 at UN Headquarters in New York

New York:The United Nations Headquarters in New York hosted a spectacular celebration of World Arabic Language Day 2024, under the patronage of Saudi Minister of Culture, Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan. The event, organized by the King Salman Global Center for Arabic Language, was a grand occasion focused on the theme “Arabic Language and Artificial Intelligence: Promoting Innovation with Heritage Preservation.”
The ceremony saw the participation of high-ranking diplomatic and academic figures from various countries. The opening speech was delivered by Dr. Abdullah Al-Washmi, the Secretary-General of the King Salman Global Center for Arabic Language, who highlighted the rich history and cultural significance of the Arabic language, as well as Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to promote and preserve it. Dr. Al-Washmi also outlined the center’s initiatives under Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, including projects related to education, translation, and the global promotion of the Arabic language.
Dr. Aziz Al-Wasil, Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, emphasized in his speech that Arabic is not only a historic language but also has the potential to play a crucial role in modern technological and creative development, especially through the integration of artificial intelligence. He stressed the importance of aligning the Arabic language with modern demands while preserving its rich heritage.
The event also featured a dialogue on “Arabic Language Translation,” in which international experts discussed the diplomatic and cultural aspects of the Arabic language. Additionally, a three-day virtual training program was organized for UN staff, aimed at enhancing Arabic translation skills for diplomatic purposes.
A special exhibition was held during the ceremony to showcase the beauty and heritage of the Arabic language, highlighting its historical and cultural significance. The exhibition featured various artifacts and examples of Arabic calligraphy, literature, and manuscripts, reflecting the profound impact of the Arabic language on global culture.
