Sardar Tanveer Ilyas’ Disqualification Overturned by Azad Kashmir Supreme Court

Muzaffarabad:The Supreme Court of Azad Kashmir has overturned the disqualification of former Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas. The court declared him eligible to participate in elections after a one-month period.
In a recent ruling, the Supreme Court of Azad Kashmir dismissed the contempt of court proceedings against Sardar Tanveer Ilyas and also resolved his appeal against the disqualification order issued by the Azad Kashmir High Court. As a result, the former Prime Minister was deemed eligible to contest elections again after one month.
In April 2023, the court had declared Sardar Tanveer Ilyas guilty of contempt of court, leading to his disqualification for two years. This decision resulted in the termination of his position as Prime Minister and the dissolution of his government.
Sardar Tanveer Ilyas had filed an appeal against the High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court. Following the contempt notice issued by the court, Ilyas apologized for his actions. The contempt charges were based on a speech he made, which led to notices from both the Supreme Court and High Court simultaneously.
