Quetta:Sardar Akhtar Mengal, head of the Balochistan National Party (BNP) and former Member of the National Assembly, reacted strongly to the imposed restrictions on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stating that political party restrictions are not a new phenomenon. He emphasized that such restrictions do not resolve issues, pointing out that the government has become agitated following the Supreme Court’s recent decisions.
In response to the federal government’s decision to impose restrictions on PTI, Sardar Akhtar Mengal drew parallels with past instances, notably the imposition of restrictions on the Pakistan People’s Party in 1973. He argued that imposing restrictions on political parties does not solve problems, as evidenced by the current government’s erratic decisions following the Supreme Court’s rulings. He further stated that if restrictions are to be imposed, they should apply to all political parties equally, suggesting the creation of a military democratic party that champions their aspirations.
Mengal criticized incumbent rulers for not learning from the past and instead exacerbating discord by standing up for others’ injustices, which he believes will eventually backfire on them.
