Rohit Sharma Set to Continue as India’s Test Captain After Champions Trophy Victory

India:Rohit Sharma is set to continue his leadership role as India’s Test captain following their triumphant victory in the 2025 Champions Trophy. Despite recent challenges, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has expressed strong support for Sharma, allowing him to lead in red-ball cricket.
Sharma’s recent success, including a thrilling 4-wicket victory over New Zealand, has renewed his confidence and cemented his leadership. His performance helped India win back-to-back ICC titles, which reinforced his captaincy after questions were raised following a disappointing Test series against Australia, where he only managed 31 runs in three matches.
According to *Indian Express*, BCCI stakeholders have firmly backed Rohit Sharma to lead the upcoming Test series against England. They believe he remains the right candidate to captain the Indian team. Although Sharma is approaching 38 years of age, he has expressed a strong desire to continue playing red-ball cricket and has kept his options open for future ICC tournaments.
Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, speaking on *The ICC Review*, praised Sharma and Virat Kohli for being the backbone of India’s Champions Trophy victory. He also highlighted the exceptional performances of all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya during the tournament. Ponting described India’s squad as one of the best-balanced teams, combining youthful energy with seasoned players.
