Mumbai:Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who was injured in a knife attack during an attempted robbery on January 16, has expressed gratitude towards the rickshaw driver who rushed him to the hospital. In recognition of his prompt assistance, the rickshaw driver, Bhajan Singh Rana, was awarded a cash prize of 11,000 Indian Rupees.
On the night of January 16, around 3 a.m., an attempted robbery took place at Saif Ali Khan’s residence in Bandra, Mumbai, which the actor resisted. During the altercation, Saif was stabbed, suffering six injuries, two of which were deep, with one wound near his spine. Despite his injuries, Saif was taken to the hospital in a rickshaw, instead of his personal car.
Bhajan Singh Rana, the rickshaw driver, described the incident in an interview with the media. He explained that while passing near Saif’s residence, a woman flagged him down. He stopped in front of the apartment building, where a man, dressed in a blood-stained white shalwar kameez, got into his rickshaw, accompanied by a child. Saif instructed him to head towards Leelavati Hospital. The driver did not initially recognize him as Saif Ali Khan. Upon reaching the hospital, Saif revealed his identity to the guards.
Saif’s operation was carried out, and a 2.5-inch piece of the knife was removed from near his spine. After a few days of treatment, the actor was discharged from the hospital.
In recognition of his selfless service, Bhajan Singh Rana was rewarded by social worker Faheem Ansari with a cash reward of 11,000 rupees. Rana expressed his pride and happiness, saying he never imagined that he would play a role in helping Saif Ali Khan and was glad to have been of assistance.
