Report Reveals Deteriorating Security Situation in Balochistan Amid Rising Terrorism

Quetta:A recent report released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies has revealed that the security situation in Balochistan deteriorated significantly during January 2024, with multiple terrorist incidents resulting in fatalities and injuries.

On January 5, a passenger bus in the district of Kech, Turbat, was targeted by a suicide bomber, killing four people and injuring over 36. This attack reflects the fresh wave of terrorism in the province, spreading fear and panic among the local population.

On January 9, armed militants stormed the Levies police station in the Zehri Town area of Khuzdar, taking control of the facility. The attackers also set fire to a Nadra office, a private bank, and a mobile tower. The incident raised questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies, as the militants carried out their attack without any resistance and managed to flee the scene.

The report also highlighted that in 2024, banned organizations carried out attacks in various regions, including Turbat, Quetta, Dera Murad Jamali, Kalat, Mastung, Harnai, Lasbela, and Gwadar. These attacks targeted security forces, government offices, infrastructure, and civilians, causing widespread insecurity.

According to the Interior Department of Balochistan, more than 200 terrorism-related incidents occurred across the province in 2024, resulting in 207 fatalities. The increasing frequency of terrorist activities has created a pervasive sense of insecurity among the public, who are now living in constant fear.

Despite claims of decisive action against terrorists by the government and security forces, the ground reality paints a different picture. Public opinion suggests that if decisive measures are not taken, the security situation in Balochistan could continue to worsen, leading to further instability in the region.
