Relief Market in Quetta Faces Criticism for Poor Quality and Limited Availability

Quetta:The Balochistan government had announced the establishment of relief markets at three different locations in Quetta to provide relief to the citizens during the holy month of Ramadan. However, so far, only one market has been set up on Joint Road. This market offers a variety of goods, including chicken and beef, pulses, milk, vegetables, and bakery items.

While the government has set up the relief market to offer some respite from rising prices during Ramadan, citizens have expressed dissatisfaction with both the quality and the limited availability of products. A local resident stated that every year, the government organizes relief markets, and this year, the market on Joint Road has some food items priced 10-20 rupees lower than those in the regular market. However, the quality of these items leaves much to be desired.

The public further criticized the milk available in the relief market, calling it “more water than milk,” and expressed concerns about the poor quality of both the chicken and beef sold there. The vegetables, although of better quality, were still only 10-20 rupees cheaper than the market price, which many felt was insufficient to alleviate the financial burden of rising inflation.

Citizens have urged the government to take more effective measures to provide real relief to the public during Ramadan, especially by ensuring that products available in relief markets are of better quality and that the markets are established in more locations across the city to benefit a wider population.
