Recovery of 880 Million Rupees from Pakistanis’ Secret Foreign Bank Accounts
Islamabad: The Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court has disposed of the suo-motu case related to Pakistanis’ secret foreign bank accounts. During the hearing, Justice Jamal Mandokhail inquired whether the foreign accounts had been identified. The lawyer for the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) confirmed the identification, to which Justice Ameenuddin Khan responded that after identification, it is the responsibility of government agencies to recover the funds.
The FBR lawyer presented a report, stating that 880 million rupees have been recovered so far, and recovery actions are ongoing in other pending cases. Justice Jamal Mandokhail suggested that if the FBR faces difficulties in recovery, Parliament should propose necessary amendments.
Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi raised a question regarding the merit of the cases from which the recoveries had been made. The FBR lawyer assured that the recoveries had been made following due process and merit-based decisions.
Upon hearing the progress made, the court decided to close the case.
