Rawalpindi Session Court Sentences Five Convicts to Death and Life Imprisonment in Blasphemy Case

The Rawalpindi Session Court has sentenced five individuals to death and life imprisonment after proving charges of blasphemy against them. The convicts were found guilty under section 295-C, which carries the death penalty, along with a fine of 10 lakh rupees each.

In addition to the death penalty, the court also sentenced the accused to life imprisonment under section 295-B, 10 years of imprisonment under section 295-A, and 3 years of imprisonment under section 298-A, with a fine of 1 lakh rupees for each convict. The court also imposed sentences under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), handing out 7 years of imprisonment and a fine of 1 lakh rupees each.

The blasphemy case was registered by the Cyber Crime Wing of the Rawalpindi Circle on September 15, 2023. The verdict has drawn attention due to the severity of the sentences handed down for the charges under Pakistan’s blasphemy laws.
