Rana Sanaullah Says PM Shehbaz Sharif to Discuss Canal Issue with PPP Leadership

Prime Minister’s Advisor on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has assured the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) that they will sit down together and discuss the issue of extracting canals from the Indus River.
Speaking in an interview with a private TV channel, Rana Sanaullah revealed that the meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PPP leadership, which included Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, Khursheed Shah, the Governor of Punjab, and other key leaders, took place recently.
Rana Sanaullah emphasized that any decision regarding the canals issue will be made through consensus, and the decision will be implemented accordingly.
The Advisor to the Prime Minister also noted that the political discourse surrounding the canals issue in Sindh is being politicized, and the PPP should take ownership of the matter to ensure a fair and correct decision. He stated that if the PPP takes responsibility for the issue, it will lead to the right course of action.
Furthermore, Rana Sanaullah assured that the leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is also concerned about the issues in Balochistan and is keeping a close watch on them.
It is important to mention that the issue of extracting canals from the Indus River has created a rift between Punjab and Sindh. The PPP has announced to launch a movement in response. Recently, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated that water issues are a matter of life and death for them and emphasized that they will raise the issue of extracting six canals from the Indus River on every forum. He further stated that the PPP will now begin a vigorous movement for this cause.
On the other hand, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah mentioned that Punjab is attempting to extract canals from the Indus River starting from 2024, but they have halted this process and will not allow it.
In recent days, senior PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira had also commented that Punjab’s stance on the canal issue is more reasonable, though the sentiments in Sindh regarding the matter are quite passionate.
