Quetta: Crackdown Against Electricity Theft – 141 Connections Checked, 23 FIRs Filed
Quetta:Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) has initiated actions against unauthorized consumers and electricity thieves across all operational circles. According to a statement issued by the QESCO spokesperson, measures include the disconnection of connections in provincial capital Quetta and operational circles including Pishin, Loralai, Sibi, Khuzdar, and Makran.
The statement further elaborated that notices have been issued to all defaulters, including governmental departments and other domestic, commercial, industrial, and agricultural consumers, to clear their outstanding bills. As part of this special drive, QESCO teams inspected 141 electrical connections responsible for slow metering and underreporting over the past 24 hours. Among these, 124 were domestic, 16 commercial, and 1 industrial consumer.
Subsequently, penalties were imposed on the identified offenders, amounting to approximately 41,000 units of electricity detected with a total charge of around 2.17 million Pakistani Rupees. Moreover, during the same period, 23 FIRs were lodged against electricity thieves in various police stations across the province. QESCO has intensified legal actions against electricity theft since September, resulting in approximately 7,000 FIRs filed against offenders throughout the province, including 636 FIRs registered thus far.
This ongoing crackdown aims to curb electricity theft and ensure compliance with legal regulations, fostering fair electricity distribution and revenue collection across Balochistan.
