Quetta: The central condemnation statement from Balochistan National Party (Awami) strongly criticizes the unjustifiable arrest of women during protests organized by relatives of missing persons in Quetta. The statement asserts that preventing the relatives of missing persons from protesting through constitutional and legal means and subjecting them to violence is a manifestation of envy-driven mentality.
The statement underscores that the issue of missing persons is a serious matter that requires political dialogue rather than the use of force, which only alienates the Baloch people further as third-class citizens in Pakistan, leading to increased animosity.
During the protest demonstrations, women, children, and elderly people were pleading for their legitimate rights under state laws, but Quetta police responded with severe brutality. Women were arrested, and young people were injured by firing and tear gas. The Balochistan government is in disarray due to this confusion and emotional use of power, which cannot intimidate people.
The statement insists that citizens’ issues should be resolved according to law and constitution. Today’s action by the police is a black day for Balochistan. Beating and dragging women without mercy is against the traditions of Balochistan.
The central statement said that Quetta police’s oppressive and inhuman behavior is not only reprehensible but also undeniable proof of the failure of our cultural, political, and social systems and institutions responsible for providing justice. This act of oppression and barbarism cannot make the state and citizens stronger and united but will increase animosity.
The statement demanded the Balochistan government to immediately release all arrested women and solve the problem of missing persons within the framework of national law.
