Punjab Police’s Crime Statistics for 2024 Contradict Claims of Declining Crime Rates

Lahore:The crime records for **Punjab** in **2024** have raised doubts about the **Punjab Police’s claims** of a reduction in criminal activities. According to reports, the rate of serious crimes has actually **increased by 5%** compared to the previous year, with **57,000 more cases** registered than in **2023**.

While police officials argue that the increase in registered cases is due to citizens having better access to filing complaints, the statistics tell a different story. Despite the police’s assertions that crime rates are on the decline, the **2024 crime record** in Punjab paints a different picture, revealing a disturbing rise in violent crimes.

### Key Crime Statistics in 2024:
– **10,67,000** total cases registered in **11.5 months**.
– **233** incidents of **murder during robbery**.
– **1,262** cases of **rape and gang rape** of women.
– **3,880** incidents of **sexual crimes against minors**.
– **85** cases of **kidnapping for ransom**.
– **504** incidents of **mysterious murders**.

Despite these alarming figures, **DIG Operations Lahore**, **Faisal Kamran**, claimed that there were **50,000 fewer cases** registered in the city compared to the previous year. He also emphasized the efforts of the **Investigation and Organized Crime Unit**, which reportedly solved hundreds of cases, leading to the conviction of many criminals.

The discrepancy between the police’s claims and the actual crime statistics has raised questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement efforts in curbing crime in the province.
