Punjab Implements Strict System for Checking Substandard Petrol and Diesel Quality

Lahore: The Punjab government has introduced a stringent system for checking the quality of petrol and diesel in the province.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been granted the authority to monitor fuel quality, and substandard fuel will be subject to heavy penalties and strict punishment under the Punjab Environmental Protection Act of 1997.
Punjab is the first province in Pakistan to implement such a rigorous fuel quality control system. Only fuel meeting OGRA-approved standards will be allowed for sale, and violations will result in strict actions.
Dr. Imran Hameed Sheikh, Director-General of the EPA, has been assigned the task of ensuring fuel quality across the province.
Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb stated that ensuring fuel quality will help protect the public from fatal respiratory diseases. She pointed out that vehicle emissions, which contribute to environmental degradation, diseases, and smog, are a major source of pollution.
