Islamabad:The Punjab government’s decision to impose Section 144 in Lahore for six days has been challenged in the Lahore High Court. A citizen, Najeeullah, filed a petition against the enforcement of Section 144, arguing that the Constitution of Pakistan grants citizens the right to protest. The petition requests the court to nullify the notification that enforces Section 144 from October 3 to October 8.
Yesterday, the Punjab government issued a notification imposing Section 144 in Lahore due to security concerns. According to the notification, the enforcement will take immediate effect, prohibiting all forms of political gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, protests, and related activities.
