Punjab Government Launches Free Solar Panel Scheme: How Citizens Can Benefit
Lahore: The Punjab government has launched a free solar panel scheme aimed at providing solar systems to households consuming up to 200 electricity units per month.
Punjab’s Information Minister, Azma Bukhari, announced that families using 100 units or less will receive a 550-watt solar system, while those consuming up to 200 units will be provided with a 1,100-watt solar system.
To apply for the scheme, residents can register through a dedicated portal by submitting their electricity bill reference number. Tenants will also need to provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the property owner, as the solar panels will be registered under the owner’s name.
To ensure transparency, the government has planned a computerized lottery for the distribution of solar panels. This initiative is seen as a significant step towards energy sustainability and providing economic relief to low-income citizens.
Eligibility Criteria:
Households using up to 200 units per month are eligible for free solar systems.
Those consuming 100 units will receive a 550-watt system, while those using 200 units will get a 1,100-watt system.
How to Apply:
Applicants can register by sending an SMS to 8800, including their bill reference number and CNIC number.
A computerized draw will be conducted to ensure fairness and transparency in the selection process.
Environmental and Economic Benefits:
The installation of 100,000 solar systems is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 57,000 tons.
The initiative is also expected to lessen the subsidy burden on the federal government.

A helpdesk has been set up to assist applicants and ensure the smooth implementation of the scheme.
