Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Launches Electric Bus Service in Lahore

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the fully electric vehicle bus service in Lahore on Friday. The electric bus, equipped with modern amenities, includes GPS location trackers, Wi-Fi, UPS ports, and seating for 30 passengers with a total capacity of 80. The service is expected to accommodate around 17,000 passengers daily.

During the inauguration, Maryam Nawaz took a ride on the bus and conducted a detailed inspection of its features.

Provincial Minister for Transport Bilal Akbar briefed about the electric bus, mentioning that the bus is designed with special provisions for differently-abled individuals, including ramps and designated seating. To ensure passenger safety, anti-slip sheets have been installed on the floor, and nine dedicated charging stations have been set up. A separate female section will be available, and cameras have been installed to prevent harassment incidents.

The service will run along a 21-kilometer route in Lahore, with 27 electric buses planned. The regular operation of the EV bus service is expected to begin in mid-February, running from the Railway Station to Green Town.

Passengers will be able to pay the fare through digital wallets or cards. The Chief Minister also instructed the installation of solar fans and water coolers at bus stands and ordered the installation of Safe City cameras at every bus stop.
