Punjab CM Approves Compensation Package for Martyred and Injured Security Personnel
Lahore: The Punjab government has approved a compensation package worth 29 million rupees for the martyred security personnel and 1 million rupees for those injured during the PTI protests. The decision was made during the 20th meeting of the provincial cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
The cabinet strongly condemned the violence and attacks on police and Rangers personnel during the PTI protests on November 24. A prayer (Fatiha) was also held for the martyrs. The special package includes 29 million rupees for the martyred constable and 1 million rupees each for the injured police and Rangers officers.
In her address, Maryam Nawaz expressed her deep sorrow over the injuries sustained by 172 police officers, stating that the brutal treatment of security personnel by PTI workers was appalling. She also highlighted the severe injuries of some officers, including an SP who suffered a skull fracture, brain damage, and eye swelling after being hit with spiked sticks. One police officer was also shot at close range.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the violence against the security forces was a sign of the brutality of PTI’s aggressive protesters, who attacked officers with spiked clubs and rifle butts. She assured that a special force of 10,000 personnel would be formed to control future unrest, with increasing attacks on checkposts in Dera Ghazi Khan and Mianwali.
The Chief Minister also directed the improvement of security arrangements and announced the approval of amendments to the laws to make kite flying a non-bailable offense. Additionally, the cabinet approved the establishment of the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority and the delegation of hearing officer powers to Assistant Commissioners in the Public Relations Department.
Maryam Nawaz also praised Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb and her team for their successful efforts in combating smog, calling their work a “war-time” effort against air pollution.
