Punjab Assembly Passes Amendment Bill Banning Kite Flying with Strict Penalties

Lahore:The Punjab Assembly has passed the Kite Flying (Prohibition) Amendment Act 2024, making kite flying a non-bailable offense. Under the new law, violators will face a prison sentence ranging from 3 to 7 years.
The revised law prohibits kite flying, manufacturing, selling, and transporting of kites, metallic strings, nylon threads, and sharp-edged kite strings used for flying. Those found violating the law will face penalties ranging from 3 to 7 years in prison, along with fines ranging from 5 lakh to 50 lakh rupees.
According to the law, anyone involved in kite flying will be subject to 3 to 5 years in prison or a fine of 20 lakh rupees, or both. The law also targets kite makers and transporters, with penalties ranging from 5 to 7 years in prison or a fine of up to 50 lakh rupees, or both.
Additionally, minors caught participating in kite flying will face a fine of 50,000 rupees for the first offense, and a fine of 1 lakh rupees for the second offense.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department stated that the use of sharp-edged kite strings has resulted in the loss of many valuable lives. To safeguard human lives, the Punjab government has enacted this strict law banning kite flying in the province.
