Public Accounts Committee Expresses Displeasure Over Serious Irregularities in Gwadar Development Authority Audit
Islamabad:The **Public Accounts Committee (PAC)** has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the audit paragraphs of the **Gwadar Development Authority (GDA)**, directing immediate corrective action to address serious shortcomings in its financial and operational management.
During a PAC meeting chaired by **Asghar Ali Tareen**, significant flaws in the GDA’s management were revealed. As a result, the committee issued crucial directives to address these issues promptly.
Chairman Asghar Ali Tareen voiced his displeasure over the department’s failure to present a proper account of its revenue sources. In one particular audit paragraph, it was revealed that in **August 2023**, the **former PAC** had instructed the recovery of **87 million rupees** from defaulters, but this directive had not been acted upon to date.
Furthermore, the PAC raised concerns about a violation of rules regarding the allocation of budget funds. The committee questioned how the **Board of Governors** had used funds earmarked for specific schemes in the government’s budget for other purposes, which constitutes a breach of regulations.
The PAC’s sharp reaction highlights ongoing concerns about accountability and transparency within the **Gwadar Development Authority**, a key body responsible for the development of the Gwadar port city. The committee has demanded swift corrective measures to resolve the identified financial and operational issues.
