PTI Spokesperson Reveals Casualty Figures from D-Chowk Protests, Claims Government is Hiding Evidence

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary of Information, Sheikh Waqas Akram, has revealed the number of party workers who were allegedly martyred during the D-Chowk protests, claiming that the government is attempting to cover up evidence related to these deaths.
Speaking at a press conference in Peshawar on Friday, Sheikh Waqas Akram stated that such treatment of protesters had never been witnessed in Pakistan’s history before. He shared PTI’s data, according to which 12 party workers had lost their lives during the protests, with casualties reported from various regions. Specifically, two workers each from Abbottabad and Charsadda, one each from Shangla, Mardan, Kotli Sattian, Islamabad, and Dera Ghazi Khan, and one each from Pishin and Haripur were reported martyred.
“This is the data we have gathered,” Akram said, adding that the actual number of casualties had been concealed.
Earlier, PTI leaders had claimed higher death tolls, with senior politician Latif Khosa stating that 278 individuals had been killed during the protests. Pro-PTI social media accounts also continued to circulate figures suggesting over 200 fatalities. Additionally, former PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja had stated that 20 party members were killed.
A report from the British newspaper The Guardian, citing hospital sources, had earlier put the death toll at 17. Sheikh Waqas Akram’s statement now presents the lowest confirmed number among all the figures circulating.
