PTI Protest: Routes to Red Zone Blocked, Rangers Deployed at Key Government Buildings

Islamabad: In light of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest, authorities have sealed off several routes leading to the Red Zone in Islamabad, with Rangers deployed at key government buildings to ensure security.
As part of the security measures, several major roads in Islamabad have been blocked with containers at various points. A heavy presence of police, Rangers, FC, and Punjab Police has been stationed at strategic locations, including D-Chowk, which is heavily fortified with containers and security personnel.
The Srinagar Highway has been closed at Zero Point, while other major access points to the city such as the GT Road, Expressway, and Islamabad Airport have also been blocked. Containers have been placed at key intersections including the Faizabad Interchange, Kinna Bridge, and Golra Mor to restrict access to the city.
Roads from Rawalpindi to Islamabad have also been sealed, including routes at Faizabad, Rawat, and Taxila, leading to significant disruptions for commuters. The administration has shut down bus stations at Pirwadhai and Faizabad for two days as part of the security measures.
In addition, both the M-1 and M-2 Motorways have been closed for traffic from Islamabad to Peshawar and Lahore, allowing only exit traffic. The metro bus services have also been suspended in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, including the IJP to Pakistan Secretariat route.
Due to the ongoing situation, public transport services, including metro buses and local buses, have been halted, causing further inconvenience to commuters. University exams, including those at Allama Iqbal University, have been postponed, and hospitals, such as the Polyclinic, have been placed on high alert, with emergency staff on standby.
While some roads, including parts of the Expressway, were reopened for local traffic, authorities warned that they would be closed again if protestors attempt to gather at these locations.
