Islamabad: Members of Parliament from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party are set to stage a hunger strike today in protest against arrests and prosecutions of their leadership and workers. According to sources, the hunger strike camp will be set up today at noon outside the Parliament House, led by opposition leader in the National Assembly, Umar Ayub Khan.
The symbolic hunger strike is scheduled to commence at noon and continue until 7 PM, with opposition leader in the Senate, Shibli Faraz, also participating in the strike camp. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and Asad Qaiser, along with all party members of Parliament, will join the hunger strike. The protest aims to condemn retaliatory actions by the government and demand the release of PTI founder and chairman, Imran Khan.
The parliamentarians have also raised concerns over threats of cases against party loyalty and have expanded the scope of their hunger strike if their demands are not met.
