PTI Leader Sher Afzal Marwat Criticizes Faiz Hameed’s Role Amid Court Martial Proceedings
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat has expressed concerns over the ongoing developments regarding former ISI chief, Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed, following his formal charge sheet by the military. In an interview with Geo News’ program *Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Ke Saath*, Marwat suggested that the press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) sends a clear message that the issues surrounding Faiz Hameed are far from over for the party.
Marwat remarked that there are efforts being made to create new, serious issues for PTI’s founder, Imran Khan, by linking him to Hameed’s affairs. He also stated that simply offering sympathy to a retired military officer, without solid evidence, is insufficient. “If there were evidence, it should have been presented immediately after the events of May 9,” Marwat said.
He went on to say that Faiz Hameed has been as detrimental to PTI as General Qamar Javed Bajwa. According to Marwat, the party had to “pay a price” due to the close ties between Faiz Hameed and the regime change operation. He further stressed that PTI had not benefited from Hameed’s involvement and that his actions had led to the party’s current difficulties.
Marwat’s comments come amid official military proceedings against Faiz Hameed. The ISPR recently confirmed that Faiz Hameed, the former head of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has been formally charge-sheeted and a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) has been initiated against him. According to the ISPR, Hameed faces charges including involvement in political activities, violations of the Official Secrets Act, endangering national security, misuse of power and official resources, and causing unlawful harm to individuals.
In addition to these charges, the ISPR stated that a separate investigation is ongoing into Faiz Hameed’s alleged involvement in violent incidents leading to unrest and chaos in the country.
The ongoing proceedings and the PTI leadership’s criticism of Hameed reflect the heightened tensions between the military establishment and political forces in Pakistan.
