PTI Leader Sher Afzal Marwat Blames Close Ties Between Imran Khan and Faiz Hameed for Party’s Troubles
Islamabad:Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat has stated that the close relationship between PTI founder Imran Khan and former ISI chief Faiz Hameed was a key factor that led to the party’s current challenges. Speaking in a private TV program, Marwat explained that PTI’s association with Faiz Hameed was never significant, but his proximity to Imran Khan had caused concerns among many that Khan might appoint him as the next Army Chief. Marwat further suggested that the government’s change of leadership was largely due to Faiz Hameed’s influence, a matter that Imran Khan will address upon his release from jail.
Marwat also criticized the ongoing political situation, highlighting the arrests of around 5,000 PTI workers and the disappearance of 200 others. He emphasized that it would take PTI up to one to one and a half months to secure their release. “We have cases registered against us, but we will continue to resist,” he said. Marwat hinted at another mass protest in January, pointing out that PTI will remain non-violent, despite the government’s previous use of force. “We may become martyrs, but we will never raise arms against Pakistan,” he added.
Addressing concerns about the potential impact of PTI’s planned civil disobedience movement, Marwat reassured the public that ordinary citizens would not face major difficulties. He noted that while decisions regarding remittances were yet to be finalized, any such move would be aimed at eliminating the influence of corrupt mafias in Pakistan.
Marwat also accused those who had undermined the country’s constitution and rigged the electoral process, calling for their removal as a prerequisite for Pakistan’s survival and prosperity. He asserted that the current government’s refusal to engage in dialogue was a lie, noting that recent discussions had already taken place with interim Prime Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who, according to Marwat, was not a member of any political party.
He concluded by stating that negotiations would occur, but only after PTI calls for another protest and the government faces a massive popular movement. “When people once again take to the streets with shrouds on their heads, that will be the time for meaningful negotiations,” Marwat said.
