PTI Leader Omar Ayyub Alleges PML-N’s Involvement in Electricity IPP Scandal
Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Ayyub has accused the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of entangling the country in the electricity Independent Power Producers (IPPs) scandal. In a statement, PTI’s Omar Ayyub questioned why expensive contracts were undertaken by the PML-N government, while ministers seem indifferent now.
“Our government was not given a chance to renegotiate contracts with IPPs during our tenure, which could have saved billions of dollars,” Omar Ayyub claimed. “Electricity generation costs are higher here compared to global standards. Instead of addressing this, their ministers were preoccupied with luxuries,” he added.
Highlighting the lack of seriousness in negotiations, Ayyub remarked, “The current government seems clueless; their ministers are at odds with each other.”
The allegations from PTI against PML-N come amidst growing concerns over high electricity tariffs and the economic implications of IPP contracts signed during previous administrations.
