PTI in Talks with Allies to Secure Political Space and Seek Relief for Imran Khan

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is engaged in discussions with its opposition allies over various options to secure political space for the party. The goal is to end the confrontational politics with the military establishment and secure relief for the party’s founder and imprisoned chairman, Imran Khan.
According to informed sources, some opposition alliance leaders, including the head of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) Allama Raja Nasir Abbas and the chairman of Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP) Mehmood Khan Achakzai, have been asked to convince Imran Khan to play a role in de-escalating the situation. They have been urged to help reduce tensions by refraining from aggressive actions on social media and assisting in the fight against terrorism in every possible way.
The sources further reveal that Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, who had expressed interest in meeting Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, was advised by senior PTI leaders, including party chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, to convince Imran Khan to help create a better environment for the party’s return to normal politics.
When contacted, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan confirmed that the party is discussing various options with its allies. However, he stated that he could not disclose the details of these discussions to the media.
A YouTuber, known for his close ties with PTI, claimed that Barrister Gohar Ali Khan recently requested Allama Raja Nasir Abbas and Mehmood Khan Achakzai to help reduce tensions, but both leaders were unwilling to agree.
Although PTI is planning to initiate a new phase of protests against the government after Eid, several party leaders are reluctant to repeat the confrontational politics of the past few years, which did not benefit Imran Khan or the party leadership.
It is suggested that if Imran Khan refrains from making harsh statements and PTI’s social media refrains from stoking fires between the party and the military establishment, the situation for the party could improve. With the country facing increasing incidents of terrorism, some senior PTI leaders believe that the party should be seen as aligning with the state and its institutions in the fight against terrorism.
The irresponsible behavior of the party’s social media has caused concern among several PTI leaders. However, they acknowledge that only Imran Khan has the authority to prevent the party’s social media from taking such actions.
