PTI Faces Internal Strife and Uncertainty Ahead of “Black Day” Protest on February 8

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is embroiled in significant internal conflict and uncertainty as the party plans to observe “Black Day” on February 8, marking the completion of one year since the general elections. Despite party founder Imran Khan’s directive, PTI is struggling to form a clear strategy for the protest, with no definitive roadmap yet.

The party’s key stronghold, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is expected to bear the brunt of the event, but it seems that the province’s leadership is facing difficulties, with little enthusiasm seen in the capital, Peshawar. PTI’s new provincial president, Junaid Akbar Khan, faced a setback when his meeting with key leaders and party officials yielded no results. No prominent leader from either the provincial or central leadership attended his consultation meeting, indicating a deepening divide within the party.

Adding to the discord, a controversial photograph of party dissident Aun Chaudhry with group leader Atif Khan was leaked by PTI itself, causing an uproar among party members. This incident has further strained relationships within the party, with accusations of disloyalty and a lack of cooperation from various factions.

Amidst growing tensions, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister, Ali Amin Gandapur, has openly distanced himself from the protest plans, asserting that his government would not facilitate the event. This has left Junaid Akbar’s leadership in jeopardy, with some insiders suggesting that the decision to hold the “Black Day” protest could backfire, especially if Gandapur’s faction refuses to provide resources or support.

Despite the challenges, PTI is still planning a rally in Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but the situation remains fluid. Some reports suggest that the protest may be a precursor to a larger march toward Islamabad and Punjab if their demands are not met. However, the central government has expressed confidence that PTI’s efforts will not escalate, with officials warning of strict action if the party attempts to spread unrest.

As the internal discord continues, analysts suggest that PTI is rapidly losing political leverage and is facing a crisis of leadership. The failure to unite the party and present a clear front ahead of the February 8 protest could severely impact its standing with supporters and the broader political landscape.
