Quetta: Mahmood Khan Achakzai, chairman of the Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) and head of the Movement for Protection of Pakistan’s Constitution, sparked controversy by condemning the government’s spokesperson, Attaullah Tarar, in a press conference. Achakzai vehemently criticized the proposed imposition of restrictions on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the country’s largest political party, labeling it as an irrational decision during a time when the nation grapples with multifaceted crises due to non-political, unlawful, and unconstitutional actions.
He termed the move as “insane” and emphasized that the only way out of the current crises plaguing the nation lies in the collective wisdom of all political parties and institutions, upholding the supremacy of the constitution, empowering the duly elected parliament as the seat of authority, and ensuring that all civil and military institutions operate within constitutional limits to establish a true parliamentary democratic Pakistan.
Achakzai further stressed that every Pakistani, regardless of their political affiliation, should endeavor to rescue the country from the prevailing crises. He questioned the rationale behind granting spy agencies the authority to infringe upon people’s privacy and violate fundamental human rights under the guise of passing such laws.
“Crores of Pakistanis will neither accept restrictions on any democratic political party nor allow any institution to undermine the authority of their elected parliament,” he asserted.
The statement by Attaullah Tarar’s group, a democratic party that values constitutional supremacy and parliamentary autonomy, has raised serious concerns among the public regarding the government’s policies.
