PTI Demands Supreme Court Intervention Over Killing of 8 Workers in Islamabad Protest
Islamabad:Pakistan** – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has called on Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, to take suo-motu notice of the alleged killing of 8 of its workers during the violent crackdown on its protest in Islamabad. The party has demanded that Prime Minister, the Minister for Interior, and the Inspectors General of Police for Islamabad and Punjab be held accountable and face charges of murder.
In a strongly worded statement issued by PTI’s spokesperson, the party condemned the killings of its workers, describing the incident as a brutal and merciless attack on peaceful and patriotic citizens. PTI claimed that government forces, acting under the direction of “mandate-thieving fascists,” had opened fire on innocent, unarmed protesters, resulting in the deaths of at least 8 party workers.
The statement identified the deceased as **Inayat Shehzad Satti**, **Malik Mubeen Aurangzeb**, **Abdul Qadir**, **Malik Safdar Ali**, **Ahmed Wali**, **Muhammad Ilyas**, and **Abdul Rasheed**.
PTI’s spokesperson further accused the government of committing “barbarism” by raining bullets on peaceful protesters, injuring hundreds and turning the streets of Islamabad into a “killing field.” The party has announced the suspension of their protest for the time being, citing the government’s violent crackdown and stating that the future course of action will be decided after consultations with PTI’s Chairman, Imran Khan.
The statement stressed that PTI is not a military or armed group, and it does not support the idea of its citizens being slaughtered by state forces. The party vowed to continue its struggle for peaceful protest and human rights, stating that despite the violence and obstacles, PTI workers had reached D-Chowk with the resolve to peacefully protest. However, they would not allow the government to turn their peaceful demonstration into a bloodbath.
**PTI’s Commitment to Peaceful Struggle**
PTI reiterated that it is committed to peaceful political struggle, having always worked within the framework of the constitution and the law. The party has successfully thwarted every attempt by the government to turn peaceful protests into violent confrontations. PTI also praised the resilience of its workers, acknowledging the efforts of protesters from across Pakistan, including overseas Pakistanis, who participated in the demonstration.
The spokesperson emphasized that the struggle for “real freedom” would continue, thanking the citizens of Rawalpindi and Islamabad for hosting the protesters and supporting their cause.
PTI has made it clear that it will not tolerate the government’s tactics of using force to suppress peaceful dissent and will take every legal step to seek justice for those who lost their lives in the violent crackdown.
