PTI Decides Not to Attend National Security Committee Meeting Without Permission for Meeting with Imran Khan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided not to attend the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting today without a prior meeting with the party’s founder, Imran Khan.

Late last night, PTI’s political committee issued a statement, demanding that arrangements be made for a meeting with Imran Khan before attending the NSC meeting. PTI has made it clear that if a meeting with Imran Khan is not facilitated, the party will not participate in the NSC meeting.

PTI’s Information Secretary, Sheikh Waqas Akram, confirmed that an emergency meeting of the party’s political committee had taken place to discuss participation in the NSC meeting. He stated that the party would not attend the meeting until permission was granted for a meeting with Imran Khan.

According to sources, most of the members of PTI’s core committee raised objections regarding the names sent by the party for the NSC meeting. They argued that the names of key members should have been decided after consulting with the political and core committees.

Earlier, Speaker of the National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq, and Federal Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry had reached out to PTI for the names of their representatives for the meeting. PTI sent the names of Barrister Gohar, Asad Qaiser, Zartaj Gul, Ameer Dogar, Ali Mohammad Khan, Barrister Ali Zafar, Hamid Raza, and others.

Prior to this, PTI’s Chief Whip, Ameer Dogar, met with Speaker Ayaz Sadiq on Monday. Dogar had requested that a meeting with Imran Khan be arranged before the National Security Committee session, and that a three-member parliamentary delegation be allowed to meet him for instructions.

The National Security Committee’s in-camera meeting will be held today at 11 AM, where military leadership will brief the participants about the current security situation. The meeting will be held in the National Assembly hall, and parliamentary leaders from all political parties along with their designated representatives, as well as relevant members of the cabinet, will attend.

It is important to note that PTI had initially decided to attend the National Security Committee’s meeting but changed its decision during the emergency political committee meeting late last night.

Meanwhile, the opposition alliance, Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ain Pakistan, has decided not to attend the National Security Committee meeting.
