PTI Condemns Attempts to Drag Military into Politics, Rejects Charges Against General (R) Faiz Hameed
ISLAMABAD:Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has strongly condemned the government’s attempts to involve the military in politics following the charge sheet issued against former ISI chief, General (R) Faiz Hameed. PTI described the efforts as “shameful” and “deplorable,” reiterating that any attempt to target the party’s leadership through such actions would never be accepted by the people of Pakistan.
A PTI spokesperson stated that the government’s ongoing efforts to drag the military into political disputes are unjustifiable, adding that Imran Khan, the party’s leader, remains a “prisoner of conscience.” The spokesperson also asserted that attempts to target Khan through figures like Faiz Hameed or any other individual will not find acceptance in the eyes of the nation.
The statement further criticized government officials for their “ridiculous” statements that could damage the reputation of Pakistan’s armed forces. PTI demanded that the Director-General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) take immediate notice of the damage being caused to the military’s standing and urged him to present the facts to the public.
PTI also emphasized that, despite the numerous challenges and provocations over the past two and a half years, the party has consistently kept the military separate from politics and refrained from using it for political gain. The spokesperson stressed that while certain elements within the establishment have been allowed to exploit the military for narrative-building purposes, PTI has steadfastly avoided politicizing the military institution.
PTI’s statement continued to accuse former Army Chief, General (R) Qamar Javed Bajwa, of misleading the nation with his claims of neutrality while allegedly masterminding the regime change conspiracy that undermined democracy and the constitution. The party contended that the current government’s narrative on neutrality is being torn apart daily by government spokespersons.
The PTI also reiterated that the attempts to target Imran Khan under the guise of military involvement are part of a broader political vendetta. The spokesperson concluded by asserting that political revenge and conspiracies will be exposed, and in the end, truth and justice will prevail.
The party’s statement marks another escalation in the ongoing tensions between the ruling government and PTI, particularly over issues related to military involvement in political matters and the treatment of PTI’s leadership.
