PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Criticizes Government’s Lack of Commission, Says No Talks Without Progress

Islamabad:Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Barrister Gohar, has stated that if a commission is not formed, the party will not sit with the government merely for photo opportunities.

Speaking to the media outside the Judicial Complex in Islamabad, Barrister Gohar explained that he had appeared in the Supreme Court regarding the protest case, where several lawyers were charged with terrorism-related offenses. He mentioned that the judge expressed hope that the case would conclude by the next hearing.

Commenting on the ongoing negotiations, Barrister Gohar emphasized that dialogue is the best path forward. He stated that despite several grievances and injustices, including the alleged stealing of PTI’s mandate and the punishments given to PTI founder and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, PTI has been willing to negotiate with sincerity and goodwill.

“We started the negotiations with a generous spirit, despite our reservations,” Gohar said. “We have been wronged in many ways, but the founder of PTI had announced negotiations on two specific demands.”

Barrister Gohar clarified that PTI had asked the government to announce whether a commission would be formed within seven days. The commission, according to PTI, should define its terms of reference (TORs) and specify which judges would be part of it. However, he said, the government has failed to take any steps in this direction, indicating that they have no intention of forming the commission.

He further stated, “If a commission is not formed, then we cannot sit with the government just for photo opportunities. PTI was keen to engage with all political parties, and it was the founder of PTI who took the initiative and formed the committee first.”

This statement underscores PTI’s continued dissatisfaction with the government’s lack of action on key demands and its insistence on meaningful progress before engaging in talks.
