PTI and Government Talks: Behind-the-Scenes Role of Bushra Bibi

Islamabad:Negotiations between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are underway through a committee appointed by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, but there are reports suggesting that the real talks are taking place behind the scenes. It is believed that Bushra Bibi, the former First Lady and wife of Imran Khan, is playing a significant role in these covert negotiations, particularly from Peshawar.

Senior PTI leaders have admitted that while Bushra Bibi appears to be distanced from party affairs publicly, she remains highly active in the background, overseeing all major developments. A PTI leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that Bushra Bibi’s political involvement is kept private, and she holds limited face-to-face meetings, often relaying messages indirectly through trusted contacts.

**Key Meetings in Peshawar**

Sources suggest that although formal negotiations are taking place in Islamabad, critical meetings are occurring in Peshawar, where key decisions are being made beforehand. Bushra Bibi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur are reported to have held significant meetings. PTI insiders confirm that Ali Amin Gandapur, who already had established connections with powerful circles, is now working closely with Bushra Bibi, who has become an integral part of the negotiation process and closely monitors developments related to Imran Khan’s release.

**Bushra Bibi’s Secrecy and Political Engagement**

Reports indicate that Bushra Bibi has already held meetings with various political figures regarding the release of Imran Khan, although the details of these discussions and their potential outcomes remain unclear. These meetings are kept secret, and the official narrative from the PTI maintains that she is not involved in party affairs. However, sources suggest that she continues to manage important party matters from behind the scenes.

**Muzzahher Abbas’ Opinion on Backdoor Negotiations**

Senior journalist Mazhar Abbas shared his thoughts on a private news channel, stating that the current situation suggests that the real negotiations may be happening elsewhere, possibly through Bushra Bibi’s involvement in backdoor dealings. Abbas expressed uncertainty about the success of the ongoing talks, given the conflicting statements from key political figures like Rana Sanaullah and Ayaz Sadiq.

**Internal PTI Conflicts and Bushra Bibi’s Role**

PTI has denied any internal divisions, but tensions within the party are reportedly growing. Groups led by Aftab Khan and Shakeel have shown discontent with Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, and many have distanced themselves from him after his absence during protests and Islamabad sit-ins. These disillusioned members are now seeking closer ties with Bushra Bibi.

Sources suggest that Bushra Bibi is also not entirely pleased with Ali Amin Gandapur, frequently meeting with youth wing leaders to stay informed about the party’s activities and governmental matters.

**PTI’s Stance on Bushra Bibi’s Involvement**

PTI’s central spokesperson, Sheikh Waqas Akram, denied any involvement of Bushra Bibi in the negotiations when speaking to V News. He asserted that the talks were strictly being conducted by the committee nominated by Imran Khan, and there were no parallel negotiations occurring. He dismissed rumors about Bushra Bibi’s involvement, calling them baseless.

**Prospects for Successful Negotiations**

The negotiations between PTI and the government are still ongoing, with the third round of talks scheduled. PTI has also agreed to submit its demands in writing. However, Sheikh Waqas Akram remained skeptical about the success of the talks, citing that key PTI demands, particularly regarding the February 8 elections, have not been addressed so far.

Analyst Mazhar Abbas echoed similar concerns, stating that PTI’s primary demand regarding the elections was not included in the discussions. However, he suggested that backdoor communications might still yield some results.
