Protest in Gwadar Over Severe Electricity Crisis
Gwadar:Residents of Gwadar took to the streets in a mass protest against the crippling electricity crisis plaguing the region. Led by Balochistan Assembly Member Maulana Hidayat Rahman, protesters gathered outside the Gwadar Grid Station, while citizens from Pasni blocked the Makran Coastal Highway in solidarity.
Maulana Hidayat Rahman addressed the demonstrators, accusing authorities of deliberately causing an electricity crisis in Makran. Despite agreements to purchase 200 megawatts of electricity from Iran, and despite being connected to the National Grid, the region continues to endure extensive power cuts lasting 16 to 18 hours daily. He condemned what he termed as continuous deception of the residents, exacerbating their hardship.
The protest underscored demands for accountability from Iran regarding their commitments under bilateral agreements for electricity supply.
