Protest in Gwadar Intensifies: Mobile Services Suspended, Leaders Arrested

Quetta:The protest organized by the Baloch Unity Committee in Gwadar has escalated, with demonstrators staging a sit-in on Marine Drive. The authorities have responded with force, leading to the arrest of several Baloch leaders and activists, including Dr. Sabiha Baloch and Sami Deen Baloch. The protest has also led to the suspension of mobile phone and internet services in the city for the past four days.

Various areas, including Nushki, Kalat, Mastung, Khuzdar, and Dalbandin, have joined in a shutdown and strike in solidarity with Gwadar. In Quetta, the Baloch Unity Committee relocated its protest rally from Siriab Road to Zarghoon Road, directly outside the Balochistan Assembly.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, spokesperson Nushki expressed concern over the use of excessive force by the government against peaceful demonstrators. The situation has disrupted normal life across Balochistan, raising fears among the medical community regarding the safety of detained individuals like Dr. Sabiha and others.

The provincial government, meanwhile, has invited the committee for negotiations, emphasizing the right to protest while condemning violent incidents involving security forces and protesters. The escalating tensions underscore deep-rooted issues requiring urgent dialogue and resolution.
