Islamabad:Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed Bharth, the Coordinator for Health to the Prime Minister, revealed that Pakistan’s population according to the 2023 census stands at 241 million. He highlighted a rapid increase of 2.55% annually, projecting the population to reach 263 million by 2030 and potentially 383 million by 2050. According to the Ministry of Health spokesperson, Dr. Bharth emphasized that this high population growth poses challenges to national development and strains our resources.
Pakistan currently ranks fifth among the most populous countries globally. July 11 is observed globally as World Population Day, and to commemorate this, the Ministry of Health Services is organizing a seminar in Islamabad on July 11, 2024. The aim is to underscore the significance of effective implementation of national action plans to stabilize the population in the country.
The establishment of federal and provincial task forces reflects the highest level of government commitment to population control. The global day aims to raise awareness among the public and devise sustainable solutions for a stable future.
The Ministry of Health spokesperson stated that this year’s central theme for World Population Day is “Adopting the power of comprehensive numbers to ensure a determined and equitable future for all.” The seminar in Islamabad will include federal and provincial ministers, stakeholders, and media representatives. Special guests will include the Prime Minister’s Health Coordinator for the seminar. The event will feature expert panel discussions focusing on population issues and achieving balance within families.
