Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that steps are being taken to meet the requirements and conditions of the IMF program. He expressed hope that the IMF’s conditions will be fulfilled on time, leading to the approval of the program by the IMF board and the commencement of a new phase.
During a federal cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that this should be Pakistan’s final IMF program. He highlighted that nations have transformed their situations through relentless effort, and he is confident that Pakistan will also reach its goals.
Prime Minister Sharif noted gradual improvements in Pakistan and stressed the need to accelerate this progress. He mentioned that Pakistan lacks nothing and that even in significant challenges, great nations have persevered. While acknowledging the journey ahead as tough and challenging, he asserted that it is not impossible. He emphasized the government’s commitment and seriousness in their efforts.
Additionally, the Prime Minister pointed out the need to end smuggling, eliminate corruption in revenue collection, and expedite rightsizing and downsizing efforts. He also stressed the importance of increasing efforts to reduce expenses.
He reported a decrease in inflation rate to 9.6% in August, acknowledging a gradual reduction in the inflationary burden and congratulated the Finance Minister and relevant officials for their efforts.
The cabinet meeting will also review the country’s current political and economic situation, assess the state of law and order, and confirm decisions made by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC). Furthermore, a briefing will be provided on the closure of the Public Works Department (PWD).
