Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif Urges Federal Ministries to Improve Efficiency
Islamabad: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed all federal ministries to enhance their performance, warning against sluggishness and delays in implementation. Addressing a cabinet meeting, he emphasized the need for tough decisions to correct the economic direction, stating that slackness and procrastination in downsizing and right-sizing efforts will not be tolerated.
“We must make tough decisions and reforms to correct the economic trajectory. We cannot afford lethargy or delays in downsizing and right-sizing initiatives. The abolition of the Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD) is not acceptable under any circumstances,” he declared.
Highlighting the benefits of transitioning to solar energy for tube wells, he proposed transferring 1 million tube wells across the country to solar power, underscoring the imperative for all ministries to enhance their efficiency.
“This is a matter of our nation and its resources. We must move the country forward. Work on downsizing and right-sizing is underway, and any ministry found displaying sluggishness or resorting to delays will not be tolerated,” he asserted.
Regarding possible excuses related to subordinate departments of ministries, he clarified that while valid excuses might be considered, self-serving statements will not be accepted.
The Prime Minister also addressed corruption concerns at Karachi Port, where he pledged measures to curb the ongoing theft of approximately Rs. 120 billion.
“We cannot simply impose taxes on the salaried class while neglecting other sectors capable of contributing taxes. We must make tough decisions and undertake structural reforms,” he stressed, anticipating that Pakistan’s engagement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) might be the final program of its kind.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s directives underscore a firm stance on economic reforms and efficiency improvements across federal ministries, aiming to steer Pakistan towards a more stable economic future.
