Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif Expresses Condolences Over Pakistani Deaths in Greece Boat Tragedy, Orders Inquiry Report
Islamabad: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed his condolences over the tragic deaths of Pakistanis in a boat accident near a Greek island and condemned human traffickers for their role in such incidents. He described human smuggling as a heinous crime that leads to the loss of many lives and the destruction of families.
In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Shahbaz Sharif said that human traffickers are a cruel mafia that deceive poor people by offering false promises of a better life and exploit them for money. He stressed that these criminals must be held accountable for their actions, as such incidents continue to claim innocent lives.
The Prime Minister directed Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to submit a report on the incident at the earliest. He called for the identification of those responsible and the imposition of strict punishments to prevent such tragedies in the future. He also emphasized the need for comprehensive measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring again.
It is reported that a wooden boat carrying migrants sank off the southern Greek island of Gythio, resulting in the death of at least five people, with the death toll expected to rise. Greek Coast Guard officials confirmed that 39 individuals, mostly Pakistanis, had been rescued and transferred to the island of Crete.
