Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif was presented with an investigative report on electricity overbilling. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif where he submitted a joint investigative report from federal investigative agencies and intelligence bureaus regarding electricity distribution companies’ involvement in overbilling.
During the meeting, discussions were also held on the security situation during Hajj and measures taken to ensure peace and security. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed provincial governments, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir administrations to enhance coordination and improve relations particularly during the holy month of Muharram and Ashura.
The country recently witnessed a scandal involving billions of rupees in electricity overbilling from consumers despite high electricity prices. The inquiry report has confirmed significant overbilling during the months of August, implicating electricity distribution companies.
According to reliable sources, the inquiry report revealed substantial evidence of overbilling in electricity bills.
