Quetta: The prices of chicken meat and essential vegetables continue to rise in Quetta, the provincial capital, causing significant concerns among residents. Over the past 24 hours, the official price of chicken meat has surged by Rs. 50 per kilogram, reaching Rs. 552 per kilogram. Within a week, chicken meat prices have escalated by Rs. 98 per kilogram, bringing the current rate to Rs. 550 per kilogram, while live chicken is being sold at Rs. 450 per kilogram.
Simultaneously, the prices of farm eggs in Quetta have also seen an increase, rising by Rs. 20 per dozen to Rs. 300 per dozen. Meanwhile, the cost of Iranian tomatoes has risen by Rs. 30, with tomatoes now being sold at Rs. 200 per kilogram in the market. Pakistani tomatoes, expected to arrive after the Ashura holiday, are anticipated to alleviate some of the price pressures.
Furthermore, the price of potatoes has risen by Rs. 10, now reaching Rs. 100 per kilogram, while onions are being sold at Rs. 100 per five kilograms. Garlic is priced at Rs. 400 per kilogram, ginger at Rs. 600 per kilogram, green chilies at Rs. 200 per kilogram, cucumber at Rs. 100 per kilogram, and lemons at Rs. 300 per kilogram.
In terms of fruits, Sindhri mangoes are being sold at Rs. 250 to Rs. 300 per kilogram, Chaunsa mangoes at Rs. 200 to Rs. 250 per kilogram, and Langra mangoes at Rs. 150 per kilogram.
The continuous escalation of food prices has raised concerns among the public, prompting calls for government intervention to stabilize market prices and ensure affordable access to essential commodities.
