Press Freedom Under Fire in India: Gujarat Samachar’s X Account Blocked, Offices Raided

New Delhi:Press freedom in India has come under renewed pressure as the government takes action against critical media voices. The Indian government has blocked the **X (formerly Twitter)** account of prominent news outlet **Gujarat Samachar**, and its offices were raided by the **Enforcement Directorate (ED)** and the **Income Tax Department**.
According to sources, **Bahubali Bhai Shah**, Director of Gujarat Samachar, has also been arrested. His arrest is reportedly linked to the channel’s critical coverage of the Modi government’s economic policies and wartime decisions.
The ruling **BJP government** is facing serious allegations of misusing investigative agencies like the ED and IT department to silence dissenting voices and opposition-aligned media. The 36-hour-long raid on Gujarat Samachar’s offices is being described as part of a broader campaign of intimidation.
Opposition leaders and the **Press Club of India** have strongly condemned the actions, accusing the Modi administration of only tolerating praise and targeting journalists and outlets that speak the truth.
Journalists, opposition parties, and human rights organizations have expressed solidarity with Gujarat Samachar, calling for an immediate halt to all efforts aimed at suppressing press freedom in the country.
