President Donald Trump Extends Deadline for TikTok Sale or Ban by 75 Days

In a recent development, President Donald Trump granted an additional 75-day extension to TikTok, allowing more time for either the sale of the app or its potential ban in the United States. This extension comes just a day before the previous deadline was set to expire.
Earlier, President Joe Biden had declined to enforce the original deadline set for January 19, the day before he left office. As the deadline approached, the popular social media platform, which has 170 million monthly users, briefly went into a “dark phase” for 12 hours. However, once Trump promised an executive order granting more time, TikTok was restored.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump explained that further work was required to finalize the necessary approvals related to the deal. He added that, “We hope to continue working in good faith with China, as I believe they are not pleased with our mutual trade relations.”
According to international media reports, the U.S. President mentioned in discussions with journalists that there are several potential buyers interested in acquiring TikTok, and he remains hopeful the app will continue to operate.
On the other hand, a TikTok spokesperson told NBC News that the company is currently in talks with the U.S. government regarding potential solutions for the app’s future.
