Islamabad:President Asif Zardari has granted approval to the Electoral Reforms Bill 2024, according to the Presidency. The amendments in Section 140 of the Election Act 2017 will allow for the appointment of retired judges to Election Tribunals. Furthermore, the Chief Election Commissioner will now consult with the Chief Justice of the relevant High Court for the appointment of serving judges.
President Zardari’s approval, under Article 75 of the Constitution, has transformed the bill into an Electoral Reforms Act. It’s noteworthy that the National Assembly had approved the Electoral Reforms Bill on June 28, while the Senate endorsed it on July 8.
These reforms mark a significant step towards enhancing the electoral process in the country, ensuring transparency and accountability in future elections.
