PPP Demands Urgent Meeting of Council of Common Interests

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has called on the government to immediately convene a meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI). The demand came after a meeting of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of PPP, chaired by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, where the country’s political situation was discussed.

During a press briefing following the meeting, PPP leaders, including Nayar Bukhari, expressed concern over the situation in Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The committee appreciated the role of Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, who had convened an All-Party Conference (APC) to address the issue.

Bukhari further stated that the PPP-led CEC meeting also called for the immediate release of recovery funds for flood victims in Balochistan. In addition, the committee reiterated its demand for the granting of the right to self-determination to the people of Kashmir and the right to sovereignty and ownership to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that PPP’s CEC members have voiced strong criticism against the government’s approach, specifically pointing out the violation of written agreements by the Punjab government. The members also expressed dissatisfaction over being excluded from consultations on national issues.

According to the media reports, CEC members emphasized that the diversion of canals from the Indus River would be akin to setting fire to Sindh. They urged PPP leadership to raise this matter with the government at the highest level.
