Popular Local Pakistani Fashion Trends 2021
Fashion trends change more extensively nowadays than they ever did. Due to social media, in particular, the international fashion scene also influences the local market. There are some local fashion trends that are common in both India and Pakistan. Most of the time the designers and local brands, in both countries, follow similar trends. Since the majority of the Pakistani women wear Shalwar Kameez or trends that in line with the desi fashion, we will look into some of these trends which are not only being followed by celebrities but are equally popular among the general public. A few months ago it was difficult to predict that the summer season will see such a change in the local fashion trends.
Here are some of the most popular fashion trends of 2021, which are just as common and liked among the general public as they are preferred by celebrities:
Tie and Dye Outfits
Tie and dye dupattas were a rage in the 1990s but then they went completely out of fashion. Now the tie and dye trend is back with a bang! Most of the tie and dye outfits designed by the local brands have celebrated the technique to the maximum! The latest collection of Generation had different bold tie and dye prints.
Ethnic is another leading brand that had many different tie and dye designs as a part of its Pret collection. They had a special collection dedicated to different kinds of tie and dye suits. The brand played with color and gave its clients variety.
Many Pakistani celebrities have also been seen in tie and dye outfits. Maya Ali took it a step further by adding this tie and dye trend to her formal outfit.
Maria B is another leading designer brand that also showcased a tie and dye unstitched suit in its latest collection which was out of stock immediately.
Even the local vendors are making the most of this fashion trend by selling simple tie and dye suits for more than their normal price range. Every Pakistani girl and woman right now is looking for the perfect tie and dye outfit to complete their summer collection! Not just girls, even Pakistani men have the option to pick from a wide range of tie and dye outfits, as is evident from these pictures of some leading Pakistani celebrities.
Prints Are Back
Back in the late 80s wearing a fully printed shalwar kameez was in fashion. Gradually that fashion dyed down and plain shalwars were preferred by those who determine the fashion trends. Over the years, women have warmed up to the plain trousers/shalwars fashion. Some designers and brands add a few motifs to these trousers but printed shalwars and trousers recently made a comeback. Some of the leading designers such as Zara Shahjahan and Generation had plenty of printed shalwar kameez in their recent collections.
Aiman and Minal Khan also followed the fashion trend and added printed shalwar kameez with printed dupattas, following Zara Shahjahan’s lead. They were mocked for copying the designer but their collection was a hit nevertheless.
Some of the leading Pakistani celebrities are enjoying wearing printed suits for their regular everyday or casual look.
Printed and Plain Organza Duppatas
Organza Duppatas were back in fashion last year but this year around they made a comeback like never before. This is another 90s fashion that is back with a bang. Many leading Pakistani designers incorporated this trend in their collections this year. These organza dupattas were also considered the main attraction of many such outfits. Hussain Rehar’s debut lawn collection featured such designs with the most beautifully printed organza dupattas.
Many brands and celebrities also matched plain organza dupattas with their outfits. A few years back organza was considered outdated whereas chiffon and even net dupattas were more in demand. Zara Shahjahan collection was a perfect example of how a plain outfit can be used as a semi-formal one by matching it with a colorful organza dupatta.
Traditional Jewelry
Traditional Pakistani jewelry is also back with a bang! Most of the Pakistani celebrities were seen adorning jhumkas and baliya when they dressed up for Eid. Generally, also we see celebrities wearing such traditional jewelry in dramas and for other occasions more often now.
Even for a not-so-formal look, the celebrities relied on jhumkas in relatively smaller sizes. The most stylish of celebrities were seen following this fashion trend. The trend has been equally popular among the general public. The good thing is that such jewelry is easily accessible for everyone since it comes in all price ranges.
Customized Bridal Dupattas
This year the real-life brides followed this trend of getting customized bridal dupattas with either wishes or just the name of the bride and groom on them. This practice was also used for the separation fabric used during nikkah. This year many brides were seen wearing such dupattas.
Iqra Aziz was one such celebrity who followed this trend and also took it to the next level! When it was her first Eid last year she got this customized dupatta made from the ace designer Faiza Saqlain. Just like always, she was leading following the mainstream local fashion designs.
On her godh barhai her dupatta had 100 duas engraved on it through handcraft using zardozi and different embellishments. We are waiting to see if other celebrities will follow Iqra’s lead!
